Meet the Teachers


Karen
Karen is a professionally certified childhood educator with 4 years of experience in classrooms in New York City. She is also certified as a health educator, kindergarten through grade 12, and as a Literacy Specialist, birth through grade 6. A graduate of Teachers College-Columbia University’s Curriculum & Teaching Literacy Specialist program, she has had the opportunity to develop her teaching methodology with the country’s most well-respected leaders in education. Her teaching interests include humane education, social justice, multi-modal learning and social and emotional learning (SEL). In her free time, Karen volunteers as a friendly visitor to a homebound senior and enjoys photography, travel writing, vegan baking and an assortment of crafts. Karen has lived in Brooklyn for 9 years.

Nikita
Nikita is a recent graduate of New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development. She is certified in both Childhood and Special Education, grades 1 through 6. Though this is her first teaching position, Nikita is lucky to have experienced a variety of methodologies and curricula during four semesters of student teaching in New York City public schools. She truly believes that all children are different and welcomes the challenge of making learning exciting and accessible to everyone. Nikita enjoys dancing (ballet, tap, and jazz), reading, and exploring the city. Currently, Nikita resides in the East Village.
